As we all very well know, Japan was critically hit by an earthquake, followed by a tsunami. This had a devastating effect on the gaming industry. A more recent effect of the earthquake was the prediction that Sony will delay the release of the “NGP”. The NGP is Sony’s new PlayStation Portable device, which stands for Next Generation Portable. They may end up releasing the NGP next year, instead of the previously announced 2011 holiday season. This is because of production disruptions caused by the tsunami.
The President of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), Jack Tretton, stated that Europe, the US, or Asia, may still receive the NGP by the end of the year. Tretton could not say which region would receive NGP before the end of the year at this point in time. However, there is a positive outlook on this situation. The developers will have more time to work on their NGP titles, which means better quality games for us. This will give the Nintendo 3DS and iOS platform devices about 8 or 9 months before the NGP will begin to take the charts.
