Sony Opens New Studio to Focus on Third Party Games

Sony Computer Entertainment America has opened a new division focused on bringing Third Party IP’s to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. Adam Boyes, Vice President of Third Party announced the opening of Sony’s Third Party Division during PlayStation’s Indie Arcade event at PAX Prime. Boyes also explained how the desire to bring Borderlands 2 to the PlayStation Vita is what led to the creation of the entire division saying, “We realized that we had to build an entire division in order to make Borderlands 2 on Vita happen.

To lead the division Sony has hired Gio Corsi, former lead producer at LucasArts and executive producer of the sadly cancelled Star Wars 1313. Gio Corsi wrote this statement on PlayStation’s Blog, “The Third Party relations team at PlayStation is well known for developing solid relationships across this industry, and this new group will work closely with our publishing partners to bring their beloved IPs to some new places.

First up for the studio is the PlayStation Vita version of Borderlands 2 which is being developed by Iron Galaxy Studios, developers of the recently released fighting game Divekick.

Corsi went on to add, “Our partners who are currently in production will have us as a resource to strengthen their development process, ensuring quality and consistency on all Third Party projects.”
