SEGA and Nintendo have entered into a worldwide partnership granting exclusive rights to SEGA‘s flagship mascot. The next three Sonic the Hedgehog titles, including Sonic: Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games as well as one more unannounced title, will now be completely exclusive to Nintendo platforms.
“Sonic the Hedgehog has performed incredibly well on Nintendo platforms and this exclusive partnership is a natural fit for the next evolution of Sonic games,” said Jurgen Post, COO of SEGA Europe. “The Wii U and Nintendo 3DS are ideal platforms to showcase Sonic and we are looking forward to working with Nintendo on these three exciting adventures.”
“We’re delighted to be forming this new partnership with SEGA, and bringing new games in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise to Nintendo systems,” added Laurent Fischer, Managing Director of European Marketing and PR at Nintendo of Europe. “We hope fans are as excited as we are when more details will be shown closer to E3.”
Sonic: Lost World, a new action-adventure title to be released for both Wii U and 3DS, was announced during Friday’s Nintendo Direct presentation alongside Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. More details, including the possible announcement of the next Nintendo exclusive Sonic title, will be released at this year’s E3.
