SDCC 2014 | Battlefield Hardline "Love Your Villain Like Your Hero"

Battlefield: Hardline is Visceral Games and EA’s “cop drama shooter” that some may say is a turning point in the first-person shooter community. Delayed until 2015, Hardline has the gaming community anticipating it’s release.

At San Diego Comic Con 2014, Hardline had panel attendees Wendy Calhoun (Writer/Producer of Justified, Nashville), Bill Johnson (The West Wing, Justified), Eugene Byrd (Actor, Bones), Kelly Hu (Actor, Nash Bridges, X2), and Benito Martinez (Actor, Sons of Anarchy) join together to share their amazing story and cinematic for Battlefield: Hardline.

Good cop and bad cop, we’ve all heard that before, but what about a story about a cop who gets framed and hides to clear his name? What about a playable campaign where the player gets to play both angles as the cop and the robbers? Wendy Calhoun shares that this is the premise of Hardline’s story.

“We start off with the narrative of two cops who are good cops, and one really wants to prove himself,” Calhoun explained. “Eventually the tables turn on them, and they are set up by another group and become criminals themselves. They’ve got to fight their way out of prison, and turn the tables on the people who put them there.”

During the panel, attendees had a first look at the cinematics involved with the game. A comment by Battlefield: Hardline’s creative director Ian Milham was that there will be game operations out in a “desert, Breaking Bad meth country” type of scenery as well as an urban environment. An undercover team will lead you through these unique environments where you will learn to “…love your villain like your hero”, as Wendy Calhoun states during the panel. This is pretty much my favorite quote ever.

Visceral and EA are really taking in feedback from the online multiplayer community since the beta last June. This is something not a lot of companies do and because they are one of the first companies to do so, it has reflected on the positive outlook gamers are having regards to the upcoming title.

The story sounds interesting and we hope that since there is a delay in the release of the game, Visceral Games takes the time make this game different than any other first person shooter out there.

Just in case you’ve been hiding under a rock here is the trailer for Battlefield: Hardline!
