Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston will reportedly be in the upcoming Batman/Superman film. A report from UK news site Metro suggests that the actor will take on the role of Lex Luthor. Reports also suggest an official announcement will come after the finale of Breaking Bad to increase hype of the reveal.
This comes after yesterday’s announcement that Argo star/director Ben Affleck would be taking on the role of Batman opposite Henry Cavill’s man of steel. The film is set to release in theaters during the summer of 2015.
Personally, I’m a bit torn on the decision, just as I was with yesterday’s big news. Both men are fine actors, but odd choices for the parts. It seems that star power, not how well an actor would fit the part, is driving these casting choices. Cranston doesn’t have the deceptive, scheming look about him that Lex Luthor is known for. Of course, this news is still rumor.
What do you guys think? Is DC going for actors that can play the character, or their mass appeal? Keep in mind Ben Affleck is riding very high after winning Best Picture for Argo, and Bryan Cranston has reached new, well-deserved popularity through AMC’s Breaking Bad.
