Industry veterans Mike Rouse, Jonathan Venables and James Ackroyd have recently joined forces in the gaming world to create their newest company, RedSix Interactive Entertainment.
The team was formed back in January and the studio is based in London, where Rouse and Venables recently left their positions as founding director’s for Microsoft’s London incubator, Lift.
The three powerhouse men all hail from some aspect of Microsoft studios. Before Rouse and Venables were directors at Lift, they also worked at SCEE, as development and art directors. Ackroyd was a software developer at Rare Studios. They have brought classic games such as SingStar, Banjo Kazooie, Viva Piñata, and many more, to life. Combined they have a wealth of console gaming experience, however, their first project was announced to be a mobile game by the name of Coin Op Heroes 2.
The competitive mobile and tablet market has allowed the three creative minds to take this opportunity to form their close knit team. RedSix plans on developing high quality games that are character focused and will be released on mobile, tablet, and future game consoles. On their very first blog post on their website, the trio announced the beginning of their studio. “We are RedSix a small start-up studio looking to make high quality fun games that have great characters and worlds that you can get lost in.”
Coin Op Heroes 2 will be their first IP that is already well under development. During their first meeting in regards to their newest project (the details of which can be read on their blog), the team at RedSix quickly discussed the core gameplay that they wanted to achieve, the development, the time frame they would set for the game to be released as well as many other items. They settled on the fact that this would be a “tappy” game, which would allow fun gameplay and quick development. They gathered inspiration from hit games such as RPG clicker, Tap Titans and Street Pass Battle.
RedSix states that, “The game play has evolved, improved and become something better since our first meeting and we can’t wait to share Coin Op Heroes 2 and all its quirky goodness with all of you soon.”
The time frame that the developers have set for Coin Op Heroes 2 is twelve weeks. You can keep up with all future news for Coin Op Heroes 2 and RedSix Interactive Entertainment on their website.
