Redbox Adding Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One to Rental Services

While the newest consoles have been available for anywhere between a few months to a year, renting games for your Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U have mainly involved one option: GameFly.

In theory, there’s always Blockbuster, but you know, they’re going out of business left and right. For those that are looking to rent games without waiting on the mail, you’re in luck. Redbox is preparing to make games available for rental on your newest console. Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 splash pages list the games as “available now,” while the Wii U is still listed as coming soon.

Is this earth shattering news that will result in a mad dash of consoles? Probably not. Will the fact that gamers no longer have to invest $60 towards a game they’re not sure about to keep enjoying their newest console be a good thing? Absolutely. It’s nice to see that Redbox has finally caught up, especially when you consider the fact that the Wii U has been released for 15 months now.

Just don’t expect all new releases, though. If you’re looking to pick up Titanfall or Infamous: Second Son, it appears that you’re out of luck. If you’re hoping for Thief, the odds appear to be in your favor. It should be noted that Polygon is reporting that Titanfall will be available come April 8th; I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
