Red Dead Redemption is Barreling toward Xbox One Later This Week

Rockstar Games has announced today that Red Dead Redemption will be available for backwards compatibility on Xbox One this Friday, July 8. Anyone who owns any Xbox 360 copy of the game will be able to play it on Xbox One for free. This includes the original version, the Undead Nightmare edition, and the Game of the Year edition. The game will also be available to purchase from Microsoft’s online Games Store.

Many fans hoped the game would be included in the initial release of backwards compatibility patches last year, but Red Dead Redemption was mysteriously absent. In an interview with Eurogamer, Microsoft’s Richard Irving stated that the delay was due to publishers such as Rockstar who “have cut very specific deals on some of that content.”

This was especially surprising, given that Microsoft accidentally allowed everyone to play Red Dead Redemption for a brief moment last February when a patch allowed it and other titles to be played. If players didn’t mind disconnecting their Xbox Ones from the Internet, they could still be playing Red Dead Redemption up until the new update this Friday.

Could a remastered version be on the way? It could even be indicative of a possible sequel announcement. Our own Eva Escribano (@MissHaruki) wrote an article detailing some leaks and possible surprises that Red Dead Redemption 2 may have in store.
