Houston Comicpalooza: Catching Up With Red 5 Comics

I spent the weekend surrounded by nerds and geeks alike at the Houston comic convention known as Comicpalooza. This year’s convention showcased the plethora of talent that the south had to offer, from colorists to illustrators, the level of penmanship was beyond amazing.

One such comic book company that stood out to us was Red 5 Comics, apart from their gorgeous covers and eye-popping graphics, the fact that I’d actually read some of their work perked my interest.

Red 5 Comics is the creation of Paul Ens, former director of Lucasfilm’s StarWars.com and Lucas Online and Scott Chitwood, co-founder of TheForce.net and contributor to ComingSoon.net and SuperHeroHype.com.

Their flagship title, Atomic Robo, recently had its first volume free as a reward for GameStop subscribers, so check it out! Being an Eisner nominated title, Atomic Robo is a beautifully written comic that’s already 6 volumes deep.

As a current Houstonian, my chest swelled with pride to know that a company of such high caliber existed under the same smoggy air that we did. Having their work on AmazonComixology,Graphic.lyPanelfly and Comics +, the company has proved that their short length of time in the industry is in no way a handicap.

As we make a push to provide our readers with more comic book news and reviews, be prepared to see Red 5 Comics’ name pop up quite a bit!
