Punch Stuff With 99Vidas Right Now

99Vidas

This week QUByte Interactive released 99Vidas, a retro beat’em up. The game is available for PS3, PS4 and PS Vita, with Cross-buy (Yes!) for the low price of $9.99. PSN Plus subscribers will benefit from a 20% discount during launch week.

Additionally, the publisher confirmed that the game will have a Platinum trophy, but players will need to collect 39 trophies before obtaining that elusive Platinum one. Along with the quite fun Cross-buy option, the game also offers Cross-Save and Cross-Play (between PS3 and PS4)!

QUByte and podcast 99Vidas also indicated there’s the possibility of a retail version, however negotiations are still ongoing.

99Vidas is a new title that will be a throwback to classics like Final Fight, Streets of Rage and Battletoads. As seen in the trailer above, the game is done in beautiful old school 16-bit retro graphics bringing the nostalgia of the 80s and 90s to 2017. A simplified control scheme features two attack buttons: Punch (fast but weak) and Kick (slow but strong). Alternating both attacks will result in a variety of combos.

Players progress through the game acquiring Experience points which are in turn used to upgrade moves and combos. Players can even add elemental damage(!) to their punches and kicks.

Fans of the old school beat’em ups will be happy to know that the PS3 and PS4 version will support co-op. Up to 4 players can play together either locally or online. Gamers can choose among 11 playable characters to go through the game’s story mode with is spread across six levels. Once players are done with the story, they can tackle the Versus and Survival modes.

Those who still have a PlayStation TV will be happy to learn that 99Vidas supports that nifty little gadget.
