Is Prey 2 Actually Happening?

Prey 2

Different rumors and whispers indicate that Prey 2 is very far away from being dead – actually, it may get announced during E3.

Here’s a story about a game that looked pretty awesome, the tale of a game that wanted to be but never was – until now. We are referring here to Prey 2, the sequel to that Prey videogame that came back ten years ago. A first-person shooter with a cool Sci-Fi ambiance and addictive gameplay mechanics. Long-standing development processes are quite common nowadays, creating more headaches for their developers and publishers than they originally intended to. Two websites, Kotaku and aliennoire, take now the lead and assure us that Prey 2 is really happening and that we will see more of it during E3.

The Story Behind the Rumors

It’s not the first time that Kotaku brings the topic of Prey 2 to the table. They already did so back in 2013 when they mentioned that the game was being actually developed by Arkane, taking the baton from Human Head Studios.

Bethesda, on the other hand, is keeping the silence this time, without accepting or denying so far these hearsays. In fact, Bethesda has been rather quiet about the cancellation of this big project. Back in 2014 vice president Pete Hines confirmed that Prey 2 had irremediably been cancelled but only after the game had fallen into a deceptive oblivion. ““It was a game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be – we never saw a path to success if we finished it”, he said in his official announcement. “It wasn’t up to our quality standard, and we decided to cancel it. It’s no longer in development”.

Jason Schreir, from Kotaku, mentions on his side that the current alias of this title is “Danielle,” that it may be announced with another name and that it may bring loads of additions to the original game made by Human Head.

The first Prey was launched in 2006 for Xbox 360 and PC. It gained quite quickly an acceptable status within critics and gamers alike because of its atmosphere and its combination of first-person shooter with exploration elements. While the Prey 2 buzz may not be more than fan-talking, the truth is that the prospect of seeing it happening is rather luring.

Again, we will need to wait until E3 to see what magic cards does Bethesda takes from their sleeves.
