Press Start | What We Played for Week 36

Welcome fanatics to Press Start! This is a weekly editorial that dives into what we here at The Game Fanatics have been playing. No spoilers on the newer games that we’re playing but we will give you a quick insight on how good or bad it is. Games will range from retro to new, casual to FPS, we play it all!

Jeff:

I finally finished Grand Theft Auto 4, but I’m far from done with Liberty City. I still have the two expansion episodes to go, and I’ve already started with The Lost and the Damned. I’m also chipping away at Resident Evil 6 and LittleBigPlanet Vita.

Jen:

I finished up Saints Row IV. The game isn’t as good as The Third, not by a long shot but SRIV does have it’s moments. A game with so many glitches and problems shouldn’t be getting the high praise that it has been getting. The game itself is suppose to be glitchy but when an actual glitch happens it is very frustrating.

Picked up Project X Zone while I was in Seattle. They had the game both used and new when I first landed in Seattle. I opt out from getting the game on my first day in the city just in case I needed the extra money. The day after PAX I stopped by the gaming store again and both copies were still there! I couldn’t pass it up and I’m glad that I didn’t. Project X Zone is addicting.

I’ve been playing two games via Steam: Skullgirls and Legend of Dungeon. Skullgirls is a lot a fun and it gave me a reason to use my 360 controller on my PC again. You can check out my review here. Legend of Dungeon I saw at PAX and was pulled in. I’m currently working on that review as I type this out. I can say that Legend of Dungeon is a lot of fun.

Ben:

Finished up Killer is Dead and, as a fan of Suda 51 and his games, I was pretty disappointed. It’s a decent action game but the rest of it falls apart. Watch out for the review coming soon for more details.

Other than that, I continued down the FFXIV addiction train. I really enjoy this game. It’s the first MMO I can see myself playing for a long time. One of the best things is that you can make one character and still do all the classes. It’s pretty great.

Arnell:

Downloaded a lot of good stuff lately. I got BIT.TRIP.SAGA (3DS) for only 5 bucks. 6 games for 5 bucks is a great deal. Get it while the deal is still going on (ends September 15th). Not only that, but the BIT.TRIP games work really well in 3D.

I also downloaded Summer Carnival ’92 RECCA (3DS). I like my shmups, but this has to be the toughest shmup I’ve ever played. I can only get to the second level with the normal stock of lives. I’ll have to use that infinite lives code some time, ha.

And lastly I downloaded Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (Wii U), 2 games in one. I had been waiting for this for a while. I played Tower of Doom a lot in the arcade and was never able to beat it. I spent many quarters trying. But I was finally able to beat it in one sitting. I haven’t tried Shadow Over Mystara yet, but I’m sure it’s more of the same. If anyone wants to play some online multiplayer, hit me up at WingedVoX.

Billy:

I have been on a movie kick this week so my gaming has taken a backseat. I have been playing a bit of LoL and Torchlight 2. I have really fallen in love with the whole MOBA scene and League of Legends is still the big dog in the yard. As far as Torchlight 2, you just gotta love a well made dungeon crawler that you can loose yourself in for a while. Plus it takes the place of the disappointment that was Diablo 3.

Darrin:

Finished up Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate for review, kept working through The Last of Us (damn Clickers), TMNT: Out of the Shadows (damn boss battles) and now saving up for a PS Vita TV (damn pretty gadgets).
