Prepare for Dishonored 2: Catching Up with the Original DLC

Dishonored 2

Dishonored 2 creative director Harvey Smith recommends going back and playing Dishonored most narrative-driven DLC before jumping into the next game. Here is why.

It may come as something obvious, but creative director Harvey Smith really wants us to revisit Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches before heading into Dishonored’s own Victorian underworld. If you were thinking in giving a second go to the original game, you may want to replay those as well. Or discover them anew. Both DLC will cost you between 10 and 15 hours, according to HLTB, and official release is currently scheduled for November 11 this year. So you certainly have the time!

What makes these two DLC so special? The narrative ties and the myriad of details that they hand into players, boosting the overall lore. Also, the fact that they introduce already some characters we’ll be seeing in Dishonored 2. Alas, rather important ones! It’s not to say that you will be unable to follow Dishonored 2 arc of events, of course. But you may prefer those folks to have their comebacks rather than leaving you with a excuse-me-who-on-earth-are-you kind of face.

Harvey Smith has it clear: it’s really not about the money. “I’m not just saying this because I want people to buy our game”, he told GamesRadar. Retrospectively, both DLC seem to add more to the sequel than originally intended. “The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches are really good chapter pieces after we had really figured out the game”, he also commented. If you are wondering why Dunwall City Trials, the first DLC ever, is not covered here is because this one focused more on gameplay challenges and new modes “only”.

These two expansions also allowed the team to expand narrow roles, giving some Dishonored characters a tad more of depth. Also, they were the first playground where to experiment on voicing a main character (do you remember Michael Madsen’s awesome performance as Daud? Well, you should, really) and also on trying out some other abilities that have been revamped for the sequel.

All in all, they are nifty supplement that adds to the thrilling beats of Dishonored. They both come in Dishonored – Definitive Edition, currently with a juicy discount on Steam.
