New Pokémon X and Y Details Revealed

New details about  Pokémon X and Y, including the legendary Pokémon and other brand new Pokémon, have been revealed.

Nintendo has revealed new details about the upcoming Pokémon X and Y, including the new professor legendary Pokémon, new Pokémon, new gym leaders and other special features.

Pokémon X and Y takes trainers on an adventure through the Kalos region. Professor Augustine Sycamore will entrust trainers with one of the three new starters– Grass-type Chespin, Fire-type Fennekin, or Water-type Froakie. The trainer’s mission in Pokémon X and Y is to fill the Pokédex, while keeping the evil Team Flare’s motives in check.

The following details about the legendary Pokémon of Pokémon X and Y have been revealed:

Xerneas is exclusive to X and is part of a brand new Pokémon type being introduced in X and Y– the fairy type.
Two of Xerneas’s moves have been revealed: Geomancy and Fairy Aura. Geomancy is Xerneas’s exclusive move and features a show of rainbow light erupting from the ground. Fairy Aura strengthens all fairy-type moves– including those of the opponent’s Pokémon.

Dark/Flying type Yveltal is exclusive to Y.

Yveltal is the only Pokémon that can learn the move Oblivion Wing, which sends Yveltal soaring in the sky to release a beam of red light that obliterates all those below. Yveltal’s counter to Fairy Aura is Dark Aura, which strengthens all Dark-type moves in battle.

More Pokémon exclusive to the Kalos region have been revealed as well, including:

Pangoro, the Fighting/Dark type that evolves from Pancham.

Pangoro has a violent temperament, but does not tolerate those who don’t pick on Pokémon of their own size. The leaf in Pangoro’s mouth allows it to predict its opponent’s move. One of Pangoro’s moves is Hammer Arm, which deals a great amount of damage, but lowers speed.

Dark/Psychic type, Inkay.

It is rumored that Inkay can use the transmitters on its head to communicate with its friends in addition to draining its opponent’s will to fight. Inkay is able to learn a new Dark move called Topsy-Turvy, which reverses stat changes of other Pokémon.

Evolved from Inkay is the Dark/Psychic Malamar.

Malamar may have the strongest hypnotic force of all Pokémon, making it desirable for trainers with less than great intentions, as Malamar can bend the will of its opponents. Malamar can learn Hypnosis, which causes opponents to fall asleep during the battle.

Exclusive to X is Fairy-type Swirlix.

Swirlix’s diet consists purely of sweets and so its body resembles cotton candy. Swirlix knows the move Sweet Veil, which prevents Pokémon on the same team from remaining asleep. Swirlix can also learn Draining Kiss, which drains the HP of the opponent while restoring Swirlix’s health.

Exclusive to Y is the Fairy-type, Spritzee.

Spritzee can learn Aromatherapy, which causes a Pokémon to emit a fragrance that heals status conditions of allies.

Also exclusive to Y is Poison/Water-type, Skrelp.

Exclusive to X is the water-type, Clauncher.

Two new gym leaders that will be joining Viola of Santalune’s Gym have been revealed:

Grant, a leader with a strong heart who excels at biking and mountain climbing, among other sports.

Clemont, a young inventor who love science, he is joined by his sister Bonnie.

In addition to new Pokémon and gym leaders, two new special features have been revealed. Being introduced to Pokémon X and Y is a new feature called O-Powers. O-Powers easily power up a trainer’s team along with providing other benefits, and can be shared between players by utilizing the new Player Search System (PSS). O-Powers can be shared with other trainers by tapping on another trainer that the player has connected wither either via internet or locally. Some O-powers can increase a Pokémon’s stats for a short time, increase Experience Points gained during battle, or even make it easier to catch wild Pokémon. Another new feature is Wonder Trade, which allow a trainer to trade Pokémon with other trainers across the world. What makes Wonder Trade special is that, trades are made without the trainers knowing what Pokémon they will get in return!

Pokémon X and Y is set for worldwide release on October 12, 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS system.
