Pokemon Unite: A New Cross-Platform MOBA Game for Switch and Mobile

Pokemon-Unite

There was a time where the MOBA genre was at the center of the universe for gamers. While games like DOTA and League of Legends are still widely popular, any new additions to the genre are rare with most of the news space being occupied by Battle Royal titles. With the news that a new Pokemon game was on the horizon in the form of a MOBA, I immediate jumped to excitement. Over the past year we’ve been in sort of a renaissance of Pokemon video game releases with Sword and Shield launching in the Fall last year and various spin-offs such as Smile, Snap, and Home being either announced or released. The combination of Pokemon and the intricacies of a MOBA game culminates into the ultimate announcement for fans of both.

Earlier today, The Official Pokemon Youtube channel released a video showcasing Pokemon Unite in action, demonstrating a nostalgia filled recap of the franchises storied history. With the emphasis on “connecting together” The Pokemon Company shows off 5v5 battles that includes players using either a Nintendo Switch or a Mobile device to participate. Pokemon Unite sets to capture the competitive culture of Pokemon trading cards into video game form with team based combat on display. The gameplay looks like a typical MOBA with graphics that don’t particularly impress but still, Pokemon has always emphasized on gameplay, rather than how pretty the graphics are. As of now, the Youtube video sits at a mostly negative likes to dislikes of 14k to 44k respectively, and the fan reception seems skeptical to put it lightly. See for yourself in the video below:

The Pokemon Company did not specify a launch date for Pokemon Unite but you can be we’ll post it here on The Game Fanatics the moment we hear.
