Nintendo of America has revealed that the latest Pokemon releases, Pokemon Black and White, have garnered over two million sales in the first two weeks of release.
A tweet on the official NoA Twitter account announced, “Thanks, Pokemon fans! You helped the Pokemon Black and Pokemon White Version games hit the 2 million sales mark in just 2 weeks!” The Japanese launch of the titles late last year saw the duo rack up over 2.5 million sales in the opening week, dominating the Japanese charts. The games continued to top the charts throughout 2010, and together were the top-selling video game of the year, with over 4.5 million sales in total — a whole 1.6 million more sales than second place Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on PSP.
Pokemon Black and White also sold well in the UK earlier this month, becoming the second-fastest selling DS title ever in the region, and NoE’s third biggest launch. The Nintendo 3DS launched in the U.S. yesterday — no doubt the next destination for the follow-up to Pokemon Black and White. Nintendo is hoping that the glasses-free 3D effect will set the 3DS apart from other devices.
