What We Played for Week Ending May 6

This is a weekly segment where we share what games we are currently playing for our readers to get to know us a bit better. Said games can range from retro to current and from casual to FPS games.

If we’re playing it, we’ll share it. Please feel free to comment with what you’re playing or your opinions on the games that we’re involved with.

Luis:  I picked up Plants vs. Zombies this week so I’ve been playing that a lot while on the subway to school. But I also play it a lot at home. It’s really fun.

I also got Sanctum for the free weekend on Steam. It’s a pretty fun tower defense game with a twist. You can do the usual like upgrade your towers and such, but you do so by walking around and teleporting around the map in first person. So while your towers are shooting at the enemies, you yourself can also run around and snipe them or shotgun them in the face.

Other than that, I’ve been doing the usual. Playing Battlefield 3 online trying to get better at flying around with jets. I’m actually a pretty decent pilot now. Woot! Also continuing on with Deus Ex and a bit of The Sims 3.

Jeff: After nabbing a copy of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary this week, I thought my week was going to be loaded with my return to the landmark FPS. Plans change, and although I was able to finish the campaign, most of my time was spent with “lesser” games. Some of the odder ones include Al Unser Jr.’s Turbo Racing and Shadow the Hedgehog, which I nearly finished. If you’ll excuse me, I really need to go play a good game right now.

Jen: Got to level 48 this week in SWTOR. Wish it was level 50, but hopefully that’ll happen this week. I dragged out my DDR pad to play some In The Groove on Ps2. Its been awhile and it felt good to play it again.

Jason: I just moved a couple of days ago and have been unpacking and settling in…so not much time for games right now. When I do play its mostly been the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria beta on my laptop. I also got a chance to check out the new Walking Dead game…which is really great. Telltale really upped the ante after Jurassic Park, their last adventure game, got such a lukewarm reception. Walking Dead offers a pretty satisfying and immersive experience that’s evocative of the comics (and the show). Check it out if you get a chance.

Chris: Played some Street Fighter X Tekken, although it just lead to some longer sessions of Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. Also knocked out a few levels in Crash Bandicoot as well.

Ben: I’m continuing my slow trek through The Witcher and Mana Khemia. Just trying to take it easy before Diablo 3 comes out. I also downloaded Awesomenauts and got mildly addicted to it for a bit. It’s not perfect by any means, but it is really fun.

John: I’ve been playing through Half-Life 2 and it is still as awesome as the first time I played it. I’ve also been playing Awesomenauts, Dante’s Inferno, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Jake: I’ve been splitting time between Awesomenauts and TERA.
