What We Played | July 16 – 22

This is a weekly segment where we share what games we are currently playing for our readers to get to know us a bit better. Said games can range from retro to current and from casual to FPS games. If we’re playing it, we’ll share it. Please feel free to comment with what you’re playing or your opinions on the games that we’re involved with.

Jeff: This week was all about The Dark Knight Rises, so I spent the week watching all of Christopher Nolan’s films, leading to the midnight showing of the new movie, where my theatre was hosting a trilogy marathon event. I did give my Wii a little attention with the sublime Metroid Prime 3, and my PS3 took time off as a Blu-Ray player long enough for a few challenge maps in both of Rocksteady‘s Batman: Arkham games.

Jen: Not much gaming this week, sadly. Played SWTOR as my dark Jedi as well as my sarcastic Smuggler. Got some Bejeweled 3 in, trying to get the last two achievements from that one.

Charles: Been playing a lot of Brink, so many people have been knocking that game, but I see nothing but plain fun. I picked up Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for PC, doesn’t even boot so that’s a dud, hoping for that patch sometime soon. Played some rounds of Payday: The Heist, very fun (btw we have a game night this weekend!). Also got Batman: Arkham City, Gotham City Impostors, and both Bioshocks on my plate for the next few weeks.

Jason: Mostly The Secret World has been what I’ve been occupied with. That is, until the Steam sale. Finally got Portal 2, Brink (I agree with Charles, that game is mad fun, don’t know why its so derided) and Alan Wake, a game I can’t believe I never played. I really LOVE it. The concept, the moody atmosphere, the mystery. Great stuff.

Ben: Played a bit more Dragon’s Dogma, which I’m still enjoying. Then I played Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD and it was a wonderful blast from the past. Check out my review for all the details. On the last three days of the week I got to play Guild Wars 2. I’ve never played an MMO that I liked or thought I’d want to spend a lot of time with but Guild Wars 2 was really good. Probably going to be the first MMO I ever buy simply because it doesn’t do a lot of the typical MMO things that annoy me.

Logan: Been playing the final Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend. It was amazing! Experiencing the two classes we havent had access to, the Asura and Sylvari, and the whole WvWvW PvP experience. I loved every minute of it and there was a very fun final event that was put on before the servers closed. I cannot wait until the release come Aug. 28th. Hopefully someone can just put my in cryosleep until then.

John: I’ve been playing Hard Reset on the PC and Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer on 360. I’ve really gotten addicted to the ME3 MP. Hard Reset on PC is an awesome run n gun FPS for those who love the Doom franchise. Not much to the story, but the gameplay is intense and awesome.
