What We Played | Aug 13 – 19

This is a weekly segment where we share what games we are currently playing for our readers to get to know us a bit better. Said games can range from retro to current and from casual to FPS games. If we’re playing it, we’ll share it. Please feel free to comment with what you’re playing or your opinions on the games that we’re involved with.

Jeff: I reactivated my Steam account this week, and I forgot that I had Portal on there, so I played it (surprisingly comfortably on a trackpad) along with Portal 2. With the announcement of GRID 2, I’ve been playing the first quite a bit, along with Gran Turismo 5: XL Edition. I’ve tried breaking into the GT series before, but I finally see myself playing through the career mode. Finally, I went back through the final few missions of Halo 3: ODST, which is still a fantastic game.

Jen: Got the chance to play and review two arcade-type games this week, Kung Fu Strike and Retro/Grade. Out of those two, I enjoyed Retro/Grade a lot more. I only wish it had more songs and that it’s not just a PsN exclusive. I think the game would get more attention if released on Steam. Two other arcade games that I found myself playing were Bejeweled 3, which isn’t a huge surprise since I play that to fall asleep and Fable 2 Pub Games, which was also played late at night. Not sure why I had the urge to play Pub Games, maybe its because I want to go back and get the rest of the achievements or maybe I was just that tired and didn’t care what I was playing at 3am. I also played the usual, Star Wars the Old Republic. My husband wanted to try out the “scavenger hunt” but after a while, it started to get boring and not worth the time.

Enis: I am still playing a lot of Mass Effect 3. I’ve halted progress on the single player because of the DLC coming out and started focusing on multiplayer again. I want to get more appearance options for my Krogans. I put Assassians Creed II back in just to get two last achievements. Can’t do it. No patience for finding one last feather. Maybe I’ll try again another time though. I gave Hybrid, the XBLA game a second chance. Still a fun and fast paced game with longer loading times than matches.

Charles: Been playing Sleeping Dogs, just beat it last night. Great story, great gameplay, great game. It was an absolute blast. Ryan and I talked about it on the last episode of the Game Fanatics Show, and we both came to the conclusion that it was John Woo, the game, the movie, the game.
