Is This Plantronics Next-Gen GameCom Headset?

The Plantronics GameCom X95 received a pretty stellar review from us and, we can say this now, we got one of the world’s first looks at the headphone’s successor behind closed doors at E3 2011. While we were under a strict NDA, we were able to post a few tweets and give our followers some heads up.

Now it appears as though Engadget has gotten some “leaked” information on the headset:

A leaked slideshow has outed the GameCom 780, an over-the-ear headset that features virtual 7.1 surround sound with Dolby Headphone and Pro Logic IIx technology. Each can features a sizable 40mm driver and swivels to lay flat for transportation. Plantronics also touts the reinforced wiring and joints of this setup — useful for rambunctious LAN parties — which features a 6.5 foot (2 meter) USB cable. Naturally, there’s also a requisite noise-canceling microphone, along with an on-ear volume wheel and mute switch. There’s even a button to activate the surround sound function, although this goodie will only be useful to PC gamers — the necessary Dolby software is Windows-only.

With the Consumer Electronics Show next week, don’t be surprised to see this bad boy make headlines, so keep your browser right here as we’ll be bringing you up-to-date information straight from the Las Vegas Convention Center.
