A lot of us really enjoyed our time with Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes but also deeply missed our dear old friend the Cardboard Box. Series creator Hideo Kojima commentates over the newest gameplay preview of The Phantom Pain and you definitely don’t need to understand Japanese to understand what his excitement is being directed at.
It’s not just enough that we get to dust up our knees crawling around in a cardboard once again but it looks like The Phantom Pain has decided to make it even more interesting. It’s a mechanic of gameplay so obviously omitted from the rest of the series, it’s almost embarrassing that more of us had never even thought of it. I know, it’s hard to believe surprising soldiers from a cardboard box could ever be improved upon but check out the clip below.
The Phantom Pain’s new gameplay doesn’t give us a lot of insight into any changes to the mechanics we were provided with in Ground Zeroes but there does appear to be a nifty item called the ‘Phantom Cigar’ in Big Boss’ inventory. You can insert your own joke about how smoking kills if you’d like.
