Bioware was in the house at PAX Prime! With a year worth of work still needing to be done, Bioware still managed to show off Dragon Age Inquisition. What we saw was a pre-alpha build of Dragon Age Inquisition. Even with that being said, Dragon Age Inquisition looks stunning.
We already know that playable races are back. You can choose to be a human, dwarf, or elf. Bioware has thrown in another race that players will be able to choose from, the Qunari. And yes you can be either a male or female Qunari.
Teamwork is just one of many major features in Dragon Age Inquisition. You will be able to control your teammates, giving them commands to obtain a strategic hold and get the one-up on your enemies. There’s also tactical view points. You can move the camera around the battlefield, allowing you to have an over the top view. This gives the player a better chance of planning on how to win the fight. After each battle, your health will not regenerate until you use a health potion or you return to your base of operations.
The environment is destructible and interactive. When walking in the mud, you will feel like you are walking in the mud. The scope, the surroundings of Dragon Age Inquisition is breathtaking. Dragon Age Inquisition is larger than Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age II put together. When you look towards the mountain in the distance, you can feel just how far they actually are. While walking around or entering a cave, for example, there will be no loading times. Don’t get me wrong, Dragon Age Inquisition will have loading screens but when you are in a zone you won’t have to deal with them. Speaking of caves, you will be able to equip a torch to give your character more light as they explore.
Dragon Age Inquisition is about the story and the choices you make during your adventures. The dialogue is similar to past Dragon Age games however when you hover over a choice, text will appear on screen, warning you that choice will end the conversation and/or instruct the NPC to take action.
Customize your armor and weapons as well as your party members. You will have Keeps that you can mold to how you want. You can create a keep to farm the area, opening new places to explore or set it the Keep up as a stronghold.
There will be no quest hand holding in Dragon Age Inquisition. This will be a pure adventure game. If you don’t want to do a quest, you don’t have to worry about a nagging NPC telling you what you should and should not do. However there are consequences and by not doing some missions, you might not unlock certain areas of a map. You will face powerful dragons that will use the environment against you. Monsters will not be set at your level. While some will be super easy to kill, other monsters might be too high a level to tackle.
Bioware did mention that Dragon Age Inquisition is still a year or more away. After watching the pre-alpha build and hearing the Bioware team telling us that they are listening to the fans, I am excited to see the final product.
