Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Playable At SDCC

How do you take one of the oldest and most recognized arcade video game in the history of video games and make it awesome again?  By amplifying what made the game so fun in the first place. Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 launches some time in September for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, in addition to PC via Steam, and will be playable this week at San Diego Comic Con.

Pac-Man is undoubtedly one of the most popular mascots across all forms of entertainment. Even a person who doesn’t play games will probably know who Pac-Man is. About nine years ago, Bandai Namco took their prized mascot and gave the classic game a massive overhaul called Pac-Man Championship Edition. First released as a Xbox Live Arcade title, Championship Edition went onto other platforms such as PlayStation Mini and Nintendo 3DS handhelds.

Four years later, a sequel of sorts called Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. This semi-sequel added some changes to Championship Edition and crafted an even faster Pac-Man experience.

In a press release that was given to GamesBeat, a Bandai Namco representive had this to say about the sequel:

“Currently under development at Bandai Namco Studios Inc. in Tokyo, Japan; Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 features new eye-popping 3D mazes with unique visuals, a wide variety of dynamic mazes, the new ability to bump ghosts, and the addition of intense, giant-sized ghost boss battles,”

While a majority of people have to wait until September, those of whom are attending SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) may very well get the chance to experience a faster paced Pac-Man. Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 will be playable first at Namco Bandai’s section in SDCC.

We don’t know exactly when this title is set to arrive in September but with the game being playable at SDCC, we suspect an exact date will be mentioned soon.
