Overwatch: Last Closed Beta Test Launching this Weekend

Overwatch

Blizzard will host an invitation-only stress test for the closed beta of Overwatch this weekend. It’s a rather short one that will help the developers to prepare everything for official launch.

Everything is getting ready for the official launch of Overwatch, Blizzard’s latest addition to the world of multiplayer first-person shooter games. You know, that lovely “Pixaresque” action-packed title in which two opposing teams of six players get into crazy squad-based combats all around the globe.

Overwatch will release next month along other AAA heavy titles (check our article on the “F*ck Your Wallet” May situation) and in order to help the team tune their hardware the latest closed beta test has been announced. 36 hours is the duration that Blizzard grants their avid beta players this time. It will run from this Friday at 09:00 AM PTD to Saturday at 09:00 PM PTD.

Overwatch: From Closed Beta to Open Beta and Launch

During this weekend, all testers will have access to the full starting rooster of 21 heroes. There’s a limited quantity of maps available (Hanamura, Route 66 and Nepal) and features such as the crazy Weekly Brawls and Competitive Play will not be available. Since it’s still a closed beta test, any progress made in the game during those 36 hours will not be added to your final game account. Blizzard is interested mainly in the technical feedback. This is, whether the game and servers performance runs smoothly and whether we encounter critical bugs or other game-impacting problems. Since they are going all “loco” with their hardware limits, we could also run into unexpected downtime… But that’s part of the deal so do not panic out.

This test weekend runs in parallel with the ongoing closed beta that was put in place back in February, after the hiatus of December. There will be also an open beta starting on May 5 for the unlucky ones who do not make it this time.

Overwatch is already available for pre-purchase on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and it is arriving to all platforms very soon, on May 24. For more information on how to sign up for this test and other specifications, head right into the Overwatch blog.
