Nintendo Sees No Potential In Streaming Live Gameplay

Nintendo aren’t rushing to jump on the streaming bandwagon alongside Sony and Microsoft, because they don’t believe there’s any potential in streaming live gameplay.

The President of Nintendo America, Reggie Fils-Aime, doesn’t agree with streaming gameplay. Nintendo believes that streaming gameplay does not match their focus, which is to always make sure that gaming is fun. Making Twitch a feature on the Wii U simply does not appeal to Reggie Fils-Aime, who stated:

“We don’t think streaming 30 minutes of gameplay by itself is a lot of fun,” he said. “Your specific question of just purely streaming gameplay, what we’ve got to think through is, so what’s fun about that? From a consumer standpoint, what’s fun about it?”

Nintendo have no qualms teaming up with Twitch when it comes to coverage, like E3. For gameplay, it just does not seem to be on Nintendo’s to-do list right now. Nintendo have also pointed out that they’ve introduced user-created video features for those who would like to create videos for fans.

Reggie Fils-Aime further stated:

“So for us, what we’re doing at the Nokia theatre with the Smash Invitational [Super Smash Bros.], we loved that streamed because that’s where you are able to see how these players perform, the moves they make, you can learn something. That has value to us. And you can expect us to do more of that type of activity, highlighting our games and providing a forum for players to learn how to play better. But that’s different than watching Joe Blow’s 30 minute stream, which may or may not have something that’s all that interesting.”

However, after the great success of Twitch being featured on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, it seems like Nintendo are putting themselves at a disadvantage by not including streaming. Allowing gamers to stream their gameplay is something that has been very popular for years and has seen the success and fame of many gamers who originally looked to gaming as a hobby. Whilst there is logic behind Nintendo’s reasoning, it seems like streaming is something that the fans want and it is an ever growing feature in gaming.

What do you think of Nintendo’s opinion? Do you think they should include streaming? The Game Fanatics will keep you posted for any changes!
