While You Were Sleeping… Nintendo Had Their Tokyo Game Show Press Conference

Okay, so you didn’t feel like staying up super late after recovering from the first Sunday in football season and missed Nintendo’s pre-Tokyo Game Show presser. Fear not, because we’ve got you covered!

Let’s start with one of the bigger rumors of recent weeks about the (probably eventual) redesign of the 3DS: there wasn’t one announced. While we already heard from a reliable source about such a redesign, that’s not saying that the 3DS will never have a redesign; it most likely will, but probably not be announced until next year. Timing would have been far too bad for them to show off a new 3DS model after their price slash. We did, however, get to peek at a new, sexy colored 3DS for the more effeminate gamers: “Misty Pink.”

Okay, let’s get to the good stuff. Here’s what Nintendo 3Ds owners can expect to be playing in the future:

While we already knew about upcoming titles, such as Kid Icarus (finally) hitting shelves this November stateside, and not until January 2012 in Japan, we got further confirmation about all new Luigi’s Mansion, Animal Crossing, and Paper Mario titles hitting sometime in 2012, as well as the announcement of new entries in the Mario Tennis, Fire Emblem, and Monster Hunter franchises, all due in 2012. Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater has not been forgotten; it launches this winter in Japan. Still no mention of a North American release, however, other than sometime in 2012. We also saw the announcement of a new Dynasty Warriors game and an entirely new SquareEnix RPG, Bravely Default Flying Fairy.

Looking for more concrete release dates? Nintendo announced that Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land will be released in Japan on December 7th and November 3rd respectively.

Nintendo also took the time to talk briefly about Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, launching in Japan on November 23rd, with gameplay ranging from 50 to 100 hours, the culmination of over 5 years of effort by 100 people.
