Nintendo is the last of the big E3 showcases and with the Nintendo Switch carrying a strong momentum into its second year, we’re all eagerly awaiting what the rest of 2018 holds for Nintendo fans. We all knew that Smash Bros. would be the main focus of Nintendo’s E3 presentation and it very much was. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate took nearly 30 of the 45 minutes of the Direct and with good reason. Nintendo came with a few tricks up their sleeve today though so let’s get into it.
Daemon X Machina
This reveal opened up the press conference and looked stellar. An explanation to explain would have been nice with this reveal because I’m intrigued, to say the least.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC – Torna: The Golden Country
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of my favorite games on the Nintendo Switch. It manages to blend JRPG gameplay elements and a complex battle system in a way I’ve never seen before. More of this game is a welcome announcement. Environments are beautiful and the story details revealed were quite interesting. I am looking forward to jumping back into this game in September.
Super Mario Party
Our Nintendo Predictions pieced predicted that a new Mario Party is a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch and man did they show us something fun. Super Mario Party looks to like a blast to play. With so many great local multiplayer scenarios for this game and I’m very excited to get my hands on this one in October of this year.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
I have been heavily anticipating the reveal of the new Fire Emblem game and Fire Emblem: Three Houses did not disappoint. The UI looks amazing, the story beats were intriguing and the battle maps look to be heavily revamped from the slew of 3DS titles released over the past few years. One of the new features included the ability to start in the top down view and smoothly transition into a close look at ground level battles. The release date is not in 2018 but an early 2019 release still doesn’t leave us waiting for too long.
Fortnite
Fortnite is launching on the Switch today and even though most people knew this was happening at some point, it’s really cool to see that launch today. It’s exciting to jump in and try my hand at this game in handheld mode.
Nintendo Nindies – Killer Queen Black
Nintendo set aside some time for Indies and one of the big titles was Killer Queen Black. I am not too familiar with this title but I know that this is a very popular arcade game and it looks like a ton of fun.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Now it’s time for the big reveal. The main focus of the Direct and what is arguably one of the biggest reveals in Smash history, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate features the entire roster of Smash. Every Smash Bros. character that has ever appeared in any game will be in Ultimate. Nintendo confirmed that this is an all-new release for the Switch and in no way a port of the Wii U version.
We got a ton of details about each characters fighting style and finishers. Nintendo finished things off with a legendary character reveal. Ridley from the Metroid series is now a playable character and from what we saw at the Treehouse follow up the presentation, the move set looks quite powerful. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases December 7, 2018. There’s much more I can tell you but Sakurai can detail things much more efficiently, so take a look at the full reveal.
