Nintendo’s next portable offering has been referenced in a financial report today; it’s being referred to as ‘Nintendo MH’, and it could well be a device that’s part and parcel of the Nintendo NX.
It sometimes happens that a grand reveal isn’t made with a theatrical flourish on the stage of a packed convention centre; sometimes – anticlimactically – these things come about within the small print of business paperwork. So it was today when finance firm Morgan Stanley Japan included in their investor’s report the mention of ‘Nintendo MH’, a new handheld device:
“The driving force up until now has been new business from ‘health services, theme parks and mobile games etc.,’ but will switch over to the next generation game system (NX) and next-gen handheld game device (MH (temporary name)).”
This will grind the rumour mill further in terms of what we can expect from the Nintendo NX, which is set for release in March of 2017. After Macquarie Capital Securities released a report via Nintendo Life, rumours have been circulating that the console will act as both a portable and a home console – a sort of Wii U turned up to 11 if you will. They expected the NX to be released as two separate units: the portable element to launch this November (optimistic!), and the “console partner device” arriving in 2017. Will the ‘MH’ be the “partner device” that Macquarie had reported?
President of Nintendo Tatsumi Kimishima has said that “The NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS”, and so this has led to much speculation from multiple sources, culminating in a bizarre array of ideas and possibilities. Unfortunately, this will not be cleared up at the electric triple, as Nintendo have said that the NX will not be announced at E3 2016, and so the fog of war shall remain, for now….
