Nintendo confirms that its new console, the NX, will launch globally in March 2017. Not much else is known about the console.
The Wii U’s struggles to keep up with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales, has sparked many rumors surrounding the company. Earlier this year, we reported that the WiiU will cease production. Nintendo denied the rumor, but it caused gamers to think about the company’s future. There was a lot of speculation on how the company was going to move forward in the next few years. The NX was a mysterious box looming on the horizon. Some fake photographs of the device’s controllers circulated online, generating more interest in the upcoming console. Now, there is some new information about the release date – sometime in March 2017 – but the majority of details are still shrouded in mystery.
During an announcement of the company’s yearly financial results, the company also revealed a release date for the console. We will see a global release of the Nintendo NX in March of next year. However, this announcement only confirms the existence of an upcoming console, and nothing else. This sudden revelation will not doubt spark all new speculation on how the console will look and play. Usually, more information will be revealed during their E3 presentation, but not this time. According to a tweet from Tokyo Tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki, the NX will not be the focus of its E3 conference. Instead, the company will be sharing new details about the upcoming Legend of Zelda game. It looks like it will be some time before the world will see any concrete information on the NX’s capabilities.
All of the aforementioned rumors and the existence of the NX might confirm one thing: Nintendo is taking notice of its struggling sales. Nintendo’s foray into the mobile gaming market was unprecedented, but shows the company’s evolution. Perhaps, the NX will be drastically different from the Big N’s previous efforts.
