A new trailer for the Nintendo Switch, formerly known around the Internet as the “NX,” just dropped about… twenty minutes ago.
Did anyone expect this announcement to happen on a random Thursday in October? Because I don’t think anyone was expecting Nintendo to flip the Switch on so soon!
A little bit of context might be useful. We here at the Game Fanatics have been picking up the odd rumor here and there about a new console that Nintendo has kept a lid on. Back in July, Eurogamer’s sources believed that the game would feature detachable controllers in addition to other nifty things like the entire thing being a tablet/console hybrid. In April, a release date for the NX was leaked, saying it would arrive sometime in March 2017.
They were both so, so right.
According to the trailer, the Switch will be a hybrid machine capable of running massive games like Skyrim on the go. Curiously, there are a wealth of ways to play on the Switch. There are the detachable controllers on the sides of the mini-screen that can be separate controllers for multiplayer games. Then there are standard controllers that will be released along side it. Of the games that were shone, there was only one new game (Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild), but Nintendo may just be keeping their opening line up a secret until the March 2017 release date draws nearer.
The Nintendo Switch could be the machine that brings Nintendo back on the playing field. There are no weird motion controls, no double screens, and no complex controller schemes. There is the Switch on your TV and off your TV. If the graphical capabilities of the console are at least up to par with the latest competitors, the Switch might be the switch Nintendo needs.
What do you think of the trailer? Does it showcase the console well? ARE YOU HYPED YET? Let us know in the comments below!
