Nintendo To Drop 2DS to $80 Next Friday

It might not have been the go-to handheld system for die-hard Mario and Zelda fans, but for parents looking for cheaper options for their children will be in luck next Friday when they find that the Nintendo 2DS system up for grabs at $80.

Released a little over 3 years ago, Nintendo touted the Nintendo 2DS  to be the primary handheld system for kids around the age of 7 years old. While the handheld certainly had most of the functions of the regular 3DS, the  lack of 3D functionality,  battery life and overall different structure made it a system of heavy criticism.

With the system having quite a good run so far, it seems that Nintendo has decided to drop the $100 price tag by $20, as reported by Newswire.  It should also be interesting to note that there will be a few games that are scheduled to drop ahead of the price cut date, the most notable within Nintendo’s franchises being Kirby: Planet Robobot on June 10.

2DS-price1-final

According to Nintendo of America’s Sales & Marketing Vice President Scott Moffitt, the system comes just in time to rack up plenty of other notable titles at decent prices.

“The system has a library full of high-quality games for purchase, some in our Nintendo Selects category for less than $20 each, featuring Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Zelda,” Moffitt said.

Will the price drop be enough to convince you to buy a 2DS for your young ones or for yourself? Or would you rather wait for the same to happen for the 3DS? Let us know in the comments!
