Nintendo Direct | Lego City Undercover

One of the surprise announcements back at E3 was Lego City Undercover. During their episode of Nintendo Direct today, they spent some more time talking about the upcoming open world game.

“Lego Iwata” helped introduce the title before they handed the video over to Nintendo Treehouse. They debuted some more footage from the game, which features over 100 vehicles. Helicopters were also shown, meaning we’ll take to the air in addition to roads. As expected from a Lego title, we’ll be able to build various objects to aid in our adventure.

For those thinking that the game will skimp out on some of the modern features we’ve seen in gaming, think again. Lego City Undercover has all the makings of a big budgeted open-world title. Just, you know, it stars Legos.

During one of the game’s fully voiced cut-scene, the charm the Lego game franchise is known for is fully intact. Where else will you find a convict escaping jail via air balloons?

The game is set to debut exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U in “early 2013.” While no concrete street date was announced, it’s nice to know the game is still on track to make the launch window.
