Nintendo Announces Two New Metroid Games | E3 2017

Nintendo manages to make millions of their diehard fans very happy by announcing some Metroid games at E3.

Samus Returns and In Her Prime

The first announcement came during Nintendo’s Nintendo Spotlight presentation. It was a very brief teaser revealing that a Metroid Prime 4 is in development for the Nintendo Switch. According to sources it is not being developed by Retro Studios, the guys who made the past three games, but Nintendo’s Kyoto studio. No release date was given, but it was still great to see that Nintendo hadn’t forgotten their sci-fi action franchise.

The second announcement happened during the Nintendo Treehouse event. It was a gameplay demo for Metroid: Samus Returns, a complete remake of the series’ Game Boy release. It’s a 2.5D adventure developed by MercurySteam, the Spain-based developer that were behind Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate.

The demo on the show floor looks fantastic with crisp visuals and satisfying action. The highlight include Samus pulling off a sort of counter melee attack against enemy, some new special abilities that give her temporary armor and a sort of hyper mode for her arm cannon, and of course boss battles against the titular metroids.

Also, you won’t have to wait long to check it out. This new vision of an old classic will be coming to Nintendo 3DS September 15 2017. There will be a standard edition for $39.99 as well as a Special Edition of the game that will include reversible cover art and a soundtrack going for $49.99.

Also, special Amiibo will be released along with the game, so collector’s go fast.

What are your thoughts on Samus returning to gaming after so long? Let us know in the comments below.
