The Nintendo Switch may be their fastest-selling console ever but this does not mean the Japanese giant is turning their back on handheld devices. Nintendo just announced the arrival of their newest model, the New Nintendo 2DS XL. The system’s July 28 launch is the same day as three major games for the 3DS: Pikmin spin-off Hey! Pikmin, Dr Kawashima’s Devilish Brain Training: Can you stay focused? and Mii character RPG Miitopia. All in all, the announcement was a surprising move that shows Nintendo’s loyalty to their catalog of smaller devices.
Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president has declared that this new family member “sports a beautiful clamshell design and offers a great balance between price and performance.” It is an affordable choice for those who search for a middle ground between the Nintendo 2DS and the New Nintendo 3DS XL systems.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL in a Nutshell
This new handheld device has the same processing power as the New Nintendo 3DS XL and also its large screen size, while being lighter overall. As its name indicates, the New Nintendo 2DS XL does not pack 3D visuals. It comes with near field communication (NFC) to support Amiibo cards and figures. It is also compatible with all Nintendo 3DS and New 3DS XL games. Its sleek design will feature two color options: “Black and Turquoise” and “White and Orange”.
