NHL 17 Announced – Voting Opens For This Year’s Cover Athlete

NHL 17, the latest in EA’s long-running hockey series, has been announced. Also, it’s time to choose which player gets to be on the cover.

One of the surest things in the world of video games is the yearly installment of the EA Sports series. Today, the latest installment in their hockey sim, NHL 17, was announced. As with any annual release, development of the NHL series is focused more on increments than anything else. The vision for this year’s installment of the NHL series is centered around…well…vision.

There isn’t any gameplay shown in the video (that will be revealed at the NHL Awards this Summer), but the main talking point from this teaser is that there will be opportunities for players to tailor the game to their specific preferences. The video speaks of “improving gameplay in all three zones. Through deeper and more customisable experiences in our most popular modes”, which definitely sounds like an intriguing concept.

Along with the game itself, one of the biggest draws leading up to the release of EA Sports games is that fans can vote for which player gets to be on the cover. Voting for the NHL 17 cover is being done in a playoff format over the next couple of months, with the winner being announced at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas on June 22nd. So who are this year’s nominees? Here are the matchups for the first round of voting:

  • Joe Pavelski (San Jose Sharks) vs. Anze Kopitar (Los Angeles Kings)
  • Aleksander Barkov (Florida Panthers) vs. Jamie Benn (Dallas Stars)
  • Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) vs. Jakub Voracek (Philadelphia Flyers)
  • Vladimir Tarasenko (St. Louis Blues) vs. Victor Hedman (Tampa Bay Lightning)

Be sure to get in and vote for the hockey player you feel is most deserving of the cover for NHL 17. In the meantime, I’m just going to leave this here.
