Newly Independent IO Interactive Makes Hitman’s First Section Free

Hitman Free IO Interactive

IO Interactive, the Danish developer behind the Hitman series, is releasing the first section of the game’s first season for free on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This gesture comes fresh off the news that IO Interactive has parted ways with Square Enix to once again become an independent studio.

The free release comes with the entire ICA facility section of the game. This includes two story missions, two Escalation Contracts, over 40 challenges, and other player-created missions in Contracts Mode. Additionally, the rest of the game has been heavily discounted. As of now, its price has been cut by 30% on PSN, 60% on the Xbox Marketplace, and nearly 70% on Steam.

An invite to All Gamers

Hakan Abrak, the CEO of IO Interactive, posted the announcement on IO’s official website to let fans know the good news. “I’m proud to announce that our first hello as an independent studio is to invite all gamers to play the beginning of Hitman for free,” Abrak wrote. “We believe that this is Hitman at its best. So jump in and give a try.”

Certain parts of the first season of Hitman weren’t particularly well received. However, the season as a whole is seen as a step in the right direction. It appears that IO will continue with the episodic direction for the series in a second season. Just how long development may take the independent studio remains to be seen. Still, by maintaining the rights to the series, IO has indicated a dedication to the IP that made them famous.

Are you excited to jump into Hitman season 1? Have you already played everything the game has to offer? Do you just feel like typing? Go ahead and voice your opinion in the comments. For everything else gaming, keep an eye on The Game Fanatics.
