New XCOM 2 Expansion Set To Launch This August

2K and Firaxis Games have announced a new expansion for their 2016 award-winning strategy title; XCOM 2. Dubbed War of the Chosen, the expansion will be available on August 29 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The expansion will include three new factions, all of which have their own classes: the Reapers, Skirmishers and Templars. Players will have to make good use of these new factions to take on the new threat: The Chosen who kidnaps, interrogates and kills XCOM’s soldiers. But that’s not the only new threat looming. There’s also a mysterious new alien known as the Spectre.

To put players in context, Fireaxis and 2K provided a handy synopsis:

ADVENT, in its bid to recapture the Commander, has deployed a deadly new enemy force called the “Chosen.” To aid XCOM in its fight to liberate Earth, players will have access to three new resistance factions, each with their own Hero class.

Additionally, the add-on includes deeper customization as soldiers develop bonds with their teammates which rewards players with new abilities and perks. The SITREP complements this feature by adding new modifiers. Those who are looking for a bit more of a challenge, there’s a brand new Challenge Mode which will feature challenges that ranks players on a global leaderboard.

Here’s what Matt Gorman, VP of Marketing at 2K, had to say about this new add-on:

“Firaxis continues to redefine the award-winning XCOM franchise with XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. XCOM 2 fans are going to love the all-new narrative and features, enhancing the XCOM experience and providing endless reasons to re-play through the campaign.”

Jake Solomon, creative director of XCOM 2, added:

“We’re thrilled to offer our fans an unprecedented amount of cool new toys and features in XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, challenging and empowering players in exciting new ways never seen before in the franchise,”
