Dragon! The second trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug gives us a preview of Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug.
I literally watched the trailer over and over again, Smaug’s voice…it’s so guttural and haunting. Stark Trek star, Benedict Cumberbatch did a phenomenal job in that role, as we can see from the trailer. Picking up where An Unexpected Journey left off, The Desolation of Smaug follows Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarves of Erebor led by Thorin Oakshield as they continue their journey to the Lonely Mountain.
Similar to the last trailer, and in fact the last movie, we’re not given a look at Smaug until the very end, but this time, we get to hear his voice for the first time – the thunderous undertaking of Cumberbatch.
New to Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy is Thandruil, played by Lee Pace, as well as mythical creatures from the book Beorn (the man-bear beast) and the bowman Bard.
Everything seems to be taking shape, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be in theaters on December 13.
