New Luke Cage Trailer Shows That Everybody Wants to Be the King

Luke Cage Netflix Michael Colter The Game Fanatics

The newest trailer for Marvel’s Netflix series Luke Cage was released yesterday and it’s hands-down the best trailer Marvel has put out so far.

While showing off Luke Cage’s super-strength and unbreakable skin, the trailer gives a quick glimpse into the prison experiment that granted him his incredible powers (including a play on the former Power Man’s tiara and silver wristbands). Unlike other heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Michael Colter’s titular character seems much more reluctant to live up to the heroic expectations placed upon him due to his abilities; instead, he starts off just wanting to stay under the radar and be left alone.

Like the previous teasers, one of the trailer’s greatest strengths is the music playing in the background: Isaac Hayes’ rendition of “Walk on By,” and Miike Snow’s “Heart is Full (Remix)” featuring hip-hop duo Run the Jewels. As viewers jam out to the smooth tracks, they are also introduced to the astonishingly deep cast of characters, both good and evil, including Rosario Dawson as the returning fan-favorite nurse Claire from previous Marvel and Netflix series Daredevil and Jessica Jones, as well as Mahershala Ali playing the suave yet violent mob boss, Cottonmouth.

Luckily, Marvel fans only have to wait a few more weeks to be reintroduced to Harlem’s hero as Luke Cage releases in its entirety on September 30th on Netflix.
