A New Assassin’s Creed Title May Not Be Coming in 2017

Ubisoft is taking its time to bring their Assassin’s Creed franchise back. Co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that the next game will arrive “when it’s ready” – and this does not mean 2017 necessarily.

You surely have noticed that the Assassin’s Creed franchise has come to a halt. Every year, and since 2007, each new title of the series arrived to our hands almost systematically. With the advent of the first games,Ubisoft surprised everyone with a gameplay formula that seemed to work, helped by an original storyline and evocative settings. However, that tradition of producing one title per year has taken a toll – and the Assassin’s Creed community has been very vocal in letting Ubisoft know.

That’s why the company decided to stop their publishing force and decide to look back to their, probably, most prolific franchise. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate closed 2015 with decent sales and reception and 2016 seems to be the year of Michael Fassbender’s depiction of the Spanish assassin Aguilar de Nerha in the Assassin’s Creed film adaptation. So can we expect a brand new title for 2017? Co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot promises that the new game has the potential to revitalize the whole series – and that requires development time, he says.

Taking Assassin’s Creed to a New Level

In an interview with GameSpot, Guillemot has confirmed that the new title does not have a launch date. They are not aiming for a year this time, but for quality. “It will be back when it’s ready,” Guillemot says. “That’s when we feel we have something there.” During the whole dialogue he keeps on talking about how to bring something revolutionary and how to make the gaming experience fantastic. He believes there is still a huge potential in the new game to revolutionize the IP. “So let’s make sure we change our model so we have more time and that we can bring back a greater experience,” he states.

Assassin's Creed

Therefore, the next Assassin’s Creed title will be the first one that takes more than one year in arriving to stores. Nevertheless, you can still quench your thirst with the special Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection. This trilogy is coming for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 17 and brings the remastered versions of Assassin’s Creed 2, Brotherhood and Revelations.

What about you, Fanatics? What do you think about Ubisoft’s decision of investing more time into the series? Are you looking forward to a new Assassin’s Creed title? Let us know in the comment section!
