Mortal Kombat X Will no longer be released on Last Gen Systems

Mortal Kombat X was released earlier this year for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One. Since that April release, those who still had last-gen consoles were hoping to get their hands on a copy of the wildly popular and incredibly brutal fighting game. Sadly, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced on their official forums that Mortal Kombat X is cancelled for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Mortal Kombat X

The game had been in development for the older consoles for months and was delayed many times before Warner Bros. decided to call it quits. According to their blog post, they were unsuccessful at reproducing the same quality game that is on the more powerful consoles back to the older versions. Here it is in their own words:

“Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game. We were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned.”

Mortal Kombat X runs at 1080p and 60 FPS on the PS4 and Xbox One, so it’s understandable that the last gen consoles were unable to produce the same results.

High Voltage Studios were the ones charged with the responsibility of bringing this tenth entry in the series to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; they also were in charge of the PC port of the game, which was not well received.

Mortal Kombat X
This is a metaphor for all the people waiting on 360 and PS3 copies.

Overall, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has still had a successful year due to the release of Mortal Kombat and Batman: Arkham Knight, another top-selling game for the company. The success of Nether Realms’ latest fighter along with Batman, has caused WBIE’s revenue to rise over 135 percent. So unfortunately, Mortal Kombat X will not be coming to last gen systems. If you had the game pre-order for the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360, you will be able to get a full refund. If you’re still looking to get in on the gore filled action, you can pick up a copy of Mortal Kombat X for either of the current gen systems.
