Earlier this month, Mojang’s Owen Hill gave European gamers a physical release date for the PlayStation 3 version of the popular world building, survival sandbox, but also gave PS4 and Vita users a hint of when they can expect to see their versions of Minecraft. In response to a user comment, it was confirmed that the studio is hoping to get the game out for Quarter 2, possible Quarter 3. For those unfamiliar with the terms, Hill was likely referring to fiscal quarters, and we’re currently in the second for this fiscal year.
Of course, this post is on the European PlayStation Blog, but this news shouldn’t be ignored for gamers outside of the region, particularly in North America. Digital releases, particularly releases of games that have the notoriety of Minecraft, are released in close proximity between the two regions, meaning that we’ll likely see the game in a similar timeframe. However, this is just speculation, and an official announcement has yet to be made.
When we do get the next gen Minecraft, Hill was able to confirm that worlds will transfer from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4.
