Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference shakes things up
Microsoft has announced that its E3 2017 press briefing will be held on Sunday, June 11, starting at 2 p.m. PT. The Sunday press briefing is a first for Microsoft; the company generally holds their briefing on Monday mornings.
While Microsoft has not revealed any additional details, Project Scorpio is expected to be a major focus of the event. Developer Undead Labs confirmed on Twitter that State of Decay 2 will be shown at the event. Other first party games currently slated for 2017 include Rare’s Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3 so it’s a good bet both will be a part of the show. Xbox head Phil Spencer said this year’s slate of releases doesn’t feature a game in the company’s flagship franchises: Gears of War and Halo. While Spencer said there aren’t new games in those franchises launching in 2017, it’s possible new entries are announced. Lastly, an official announcement of this year’s Forza game – likely the next entry in the core franchise – seems likely.
Microsoft is the first company to announce the date and time for their E3 2017 press briefing. EA announced their pre-E3 event – EA Play – is set for June 10-12 but no information regarding a press conference was revealed. Last year Bethesda and EA hosted press conferences on the Sunday before E3 and it’s uncertain if this will have any effect on their E3 plans.
E3 2017 runs from June 13-15. For the first time, E3 2017 is open to the public and tickets are currently on sale through the official E3 2017 website. We’ll update you when the other major press conference dates are announced.
