Nintendo held a Japenese Nintendo Direct today to announce the New Nintendo 3DS.
Seriously, that’s what it’s called: the New Nintendo 3DS.
It’s new, look! It has super sexy face buttons and comes in various colors! Mmm, that black model…
The system launches in Japan on October 11th with a launch in American and European territories sometime in 2015. In addition, a remake of the Wii classic Xenoblade Chronicles is being made exclusively for the New Nintendo 3DS. This remake won’t work on older 3DS or 2DS models, so if you want to play Xenoblade on the go, you’re going to have to buy a new system.
New features for the New Nintendo 3DS include a better processor, improved battery life, an all-new C-Stick (which acts like the Gamecube’s C-Stick), and an improved brightness feature.
It’ll be interesting to see how this news affects Nintendo’s upcoming Holiday season. There are already several 3DS models available on the market, plus the 2DS, and now the New Nintendo 3DS (that’s going to get old really, really fast). There are a lot of choices, some of which are fragmenting the market; there’s no doubting that a handful of future games will only run on the New Nintendo 3DS.
Could we be seeing a repeat of the 3DS/GameBoy situation? Let us know what you think in the comments.
