BioWare is currently developing an MMO: Star Wars The Old Republic. They’re also currently developing Mass Effect 3. So, if you add the two together, you’d get a Mass Effect MMO; it’d make perfect sense with the size of the galaxy and the endless opportunities for interaction between players of different races, right? It seems to be possible.
“A lot of people say that they want to see an MMO, I think that kind of makes sense for this universe,” says Mass Effect Executive Producer Casey Hudson. “Part of what you’re trying to do is save the universe so you can live in it. That’s part of the promise, I think, for any great IP. It has to be a world worth saving.”
I’d say since we’re spending three entire games saving an entire galaxy, all while hanging on at the edge of our seats, that the Mass Effect world is worth saving.
Regarding the future of the company, BioWare co-founder Dr. Greg Zeschuk had this to say:
You never know, I think once The Old Republic is done, we’ll take a fresh look at the market. And we’ll have learned a lot. While making it, you learn an enormous amount. It’s one of the nice things about having these properties in our back pocket… If we want to use something we own as a source for a game, it’s easy to do. So yeah, you never know. We’ve got this giant product to launch, but once that’s done we’ll consider next steps.
Admist the rumors about a possible Jade Empire sequel, it’s obvious their already planning their next step in the gaming market. Personally? I want the latter.
