The most sought-after console this season has been the PlayStation 4. With supplies exhausted across the country, Sony’s assuring customers that there’ll be plenty to be had soon enough.
In a recent interview with Game Informer SCEA CEO, Andrew House, detailed the supply process of the PlayStation 4[blockquote right=”pull-right” cite=”Andrew House”]It’s really important when launching a console in a holiday season that you have a very clear statement around what the value proposition is[/blockquote] According to House, Sony is pleased with the initial supply of PS4’s on launch, though most stores were supposedly given just a handful of consoles.
House also points to the inventory of PS4’s, highlighting Sony’s balance between the supply and apparent demand.
“You try to strike a balance. The sales target that I announced for the company is five million units sold by the end of our fiscal year. March 31, 2014”
With 1 million sold in just 24 hours, one would think that five million over the course of 5 months may be under-reaching.
Looking specifically at the holiday season, House assures customers that there’ll be plenty to go around:
“We are ensuring that we have the broadest reach to ensure that people are satisfied, especially when they’ve been loyal to brand for so long. On the other hand, we’re not engendering frustration by having a shortage of supply. I think through the holiday season that we’ll be in good supply.”
A lot of local retail stores claim to be completely sold out of PS4’s, with no disclosable shipment date near, though this offers us a glimmer of hope.
