It’s our first Music Monday in a while, and we’re coming in hot.
Music Mondays are back, with a little change in format: instead of highlighting individual tracks, we’re going to experiment with the idea of featuring multiple tracks we’re all jamming here. Emphasis on experiment. So, let’s go ahead and kick this off!
Chance The Rapper – Groceries
Told you, we’re coming in hot with this one! Right off the bat, a new single from Chance the Rapper in collaboration with Houston rapper, TisaKorean . As if we needed any other reason to be excited for Chance’s album drop in July, Groceries is the iconic artist’s first official drop of 2019. Although it’s unclear whether or not the track will be featured on this project (peep how different the art style is from everything else), the beat is dope and the bars are just right. Woah.
GoldLink – Zulu Screams
Goldlink is straight fire; very few artists are able to wield their versatility in such a crisp manner. “Zulu Screams” caught me off guard, I’ve got to admit…and I can’t quite place whether it’s the afrobeat vibes or the combo of Maleek Berry and Bibi Bourelly lending to the track’s soulful bounce. Either way, this track is definitely in rotation and might find a permanent spot in my library.
Kygo, Rita Ora – Carry On
Ok, so I have not seen Detective Pikachu yet but that didn’t stop me from perusing the film’s soundtrack. “Carry On” features Kygo’s airy beats and Rita Ora’s flowing vocals. Bonus: You can watch Kygo and Rita Ora perform “Carry On” live on the Tonight Show for +100 happy vibes.
Lizzo – Juice
Deja: Lizzo’s Juice is the embodiment of pure unadulterated joy in loving yourself. Every time I click the play button, funky beats and her smooth alto voice remind me that I deserve all the praise. This song’s happiness is so infectious, it just makes you wanna groove like Lizzo does. Now if only we could get a remix with her playing the flute!
