King of Fighters 14 is making a surprise appearance on the PS4 tomorrow – I’ll bet you didn’t see that coming.
An unexpected demo for King of Fighters 14 is going to flying kick its way onto PSN on July 19th. The demo is going to come replete with seven playable characters: Kyo Kusanagi, Mai Shiranui, Iori Yagami, and some new additions to the roster in Sylvie Paula Paula, King of Dinosaurs, Shun’ei, and Nelson. The final version of the game will launch on August 26th with fifty characters – an impressive roster indeed.
There will be tutorial and training modes included in the demo, to help newcomers learn the ropes, as well as to let veterans brush off the rust. The series is lauded for its rich and complex fighting system, and so these will no doubt be appreciated. On top of this there is versus mode, which will allow you to play against friends locally – however, there will be no online play for the demo at this time.
This will come as excellent news for series purists, given that the game’s three vs. three format is unique and its fighting system famously complex. The trailer below also showcases the games launch-ready story mode, in a not-so-subtle left hook thrown at Capcom’s Street Fighter V – which only recently had a Story mode added via DLC, months after its initial release.
