Join the Chaos Squad; Insomniac Details Sunset Overdrive multiplayer

The beautiful world of Sunset City is filled with chaos, mutated humans and a bunch of heavy, sparkly explosions when playing the single player mode in Sunset Overdrive, but is the city filled with just as much carnage in the online portion of the game? Well, yeah actually.

Insomniac Games released a small 2-minute video today explaining the Chaos Squad mode and how seamless it is to travel from one mode of the game to the next.

The developers explained today that nearby phone booth is your straight ticket in traveling to and from the online mode. Coming off of a hot and heated boss battle, for example, players and their characters can just find the brightly blue telephone booth area. Hopping in one will transform into high-tech teleportation device, flying you to a squad of up to 8 players ready to tackle an onslaught of missions.

During this transition, everything about your character and their stats will be transferred over from Sunset Overdrive‘s single player mode. Whether you’ve gained a few levels or have donned some new threads, the character that you use in the single player mode will be the same character you use in the online mission sessions.

During the online mode, you and your team will take a vote between two missions to play. There are a wide array of mission options, such as patrolling a Japanese Garden from snarly, sniveling OD mutants and obliterating convoys belonging to the Fizz Corporation. Once teams do enough crazy, wacky and down right dirty things in these missions, they’ll proceed onto an online co-operative tower-protect hoard mode known as Night Defense. As the name suggests, players must protect Sunset City from waves and waves of OD mutants and FizzCo assailants. Players can set up various traps around the area, before the attack and during. So any misplaced or poorly executed trap utilization can be quickly remedied on the fly.

Players must be careful during this mode, though. The enemies have the tendency to get stronger with each wave and especially so when their characters gradually accumulate more Chaos points and massive destruction upon enemies and surroundings.

With Sunset Overdrive set to release for the Xbox One on Oct. 28, players can also pre-order the game and get some special costume and weapon add-ons. You can check out some more information about the Chaos Squad mode in the official trailer below.
