In Case You Missed It — Gaming News for the Week of March 27 – April 2, 2017

In Case You Missed It Club Penguin

April Fools! Oh, that was last weekend… Um… Glad you all survived? Welcome back to In Case You Missed It, the weekly recap of the gaming world. Let’s dive right back in!

In Case You Forgot April Fool’s Day Was Yesterday…

I’m sure a lot of websites have rounded up every single little thing that everyone did, so I’ll just show off my favorites!

In Case You Didn’t Believe the News…

I had to do some extra research just to make sure, but it is true that We Happy Few is getting a movie. There were two main reasons for the double-checking. First, it was posted late on March 31, so the skepticism was high. Second, We Happy Few isn’t even out of Early Access yet! As far as the details go, we know that it’ll be produced by the guy who did Pitch Perfect, so… Can you blame me for not believing this one?

In Case You Didn’t Want to Believe the News…

Club Penguin ended its twelve-year run last week. Released in 2005 by Disney, Club Penguin was intended to be an MMO for children, though it found a small fan base among adults as well. It has been known for some time that the game was being shut down to make way for a new mobile iteration, but it will still be missed.

In Case You Really Didn’t Want to Believe the News…

Mad Catz, the peripheral maker that released cheap knockoff controllers for popular consoles, has filed for bankruptcy and is closing shop. According to Kotaku, the company had been struggling since the Rock Band era of games, and it was only a matter of time before it caved in on itself. If you’ve never seen a Mad Catz controller before, The Verge did a lovely postmortem for your entertainment.

In Case You Needed Something to Believe In…

Twitch released a trailer for their first documentary, Ironsights. The film, which will debut April 7, will follow the rise and life of Sara Erlandson, a bar owner who developed a strong fan following for her streams of Big Buck Hunter, an arcade series that has been around since 2000. Ironsights may be the first of a series of in-house documentaries by the streaming magnate. I wonder what they’ll make next.

That’s all for this week on In Case You Missed It! If you want more, tune in next week for more weird and wacky news that might have slipped past your radar.
